Barcelona underwent rapid urbanization and industrial expansion during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many factories and industrial buildings emerged during this period. FlBREC is one of the important representatives of this era, being a part of the local manufacturing industry. The architectural style of FlBREC combines the functionality of industrial buildings with elements of Modernism. Structurally, it likely features a steel frame, brick walls, spacious workshop areas, and large windows designed for ventilation and natural light.
As Barcelona expands eastward, the banks of the Besos River lack iconic landmarks and adequate public facilities, resulting in a lack of vibrancy in the area. To address this issue, an old factory site near the Besos River has been selected for renovation and expansion. This project is not only a revitalization of an industrial relic but also aims to create a multifunctional cultural and community hub that integrates public services, fostering social interaction and urban renewal.
